Our Valentine’s Day trip to Ipoh was short but fulfilling!
We had almost 3 full days in Ipoh as our flight into Ipoh was early, arriving at 9.00am. Right after checking in, off we went to explore and eat our way around the town.
First order of the day was tasting the famous bean sprout chicken (Ya Cai Ji) that Ipoh is famous for. We were one of the first ones in the shop!
All these just for breakfast!
Just around the corner was Funny Mountain bean curd which was so silky smooth and delicious. A small bowl of gold.
Somehow, squating made the beancurd even more tasty!
After filling our stomachs, we went for a 20 minutes’ walk from the new town towards the old town where we visited 2nd Concubine Lane which was filled up many shops selling street food and local souvenirs.
We took a respite from the heat in a local café before going on our separate ways to explore other areas of the town.
Some went to the shopping mall, some for a massage, and others went to the local museum.
In the evening, we gather for a welcome dinner at a popular local restaurant that specializes in duck.
Look at the spread we had!
After dinner, we headed back to our hotel to rest early for our ride the next day.
The next morning, we took a short transfer to our bicycle kiosk by the Kinta river to collect and test our bicycles. We did a quick warm up before our ride.
Our first stop of the day is to BREAKFAST! Breakfast is at a local coffee shop and we ordered dishes from all the various stalls so that we have a wide variety to try.
After breakfast, it was time to explore and burn it all off! Our ride along the Kinta river was peaceful, almost traffic free 90% of the time.
Along the way we spotted many species of birds, monitor lizards swimming in the river and a fisherman casting his net.
We had our lunch in the nature reserve itself and it was a hearty meal of nasi padang and the famous salt baked chicken of Ipoh.
The beautiful scenery at our lunch place
Before we return to the city, we made a stop for a cold drink at the Big Tree Foot, a popular local dining area.
Dinner was at a famous local tze char stall, after which, the group spilt for various activities, from shopping to massage to more food!
day of ride, which is also our last day in Ipoh, was spent exploring the old town of Ipoh. As we cycled, we learned about the various stories behind the landmarks and had fun with all the wall art along Mural Street.
Drinking a delicious and fragrant cup of Ipoh White Coffee, at the coffee shop where this coffee originated from!
Our trip ended back at the bicycle shop by the river where we cooled down with fresh fruits and snacks before calling it a day.
Everyone had free time to do some last-minute shopping or exploration before our transfer back to the airport.
It's amazing how much we managed to do, see and eat within just 3 short days! This trip opened up our knoweldge about the town of Ipoh and its surrounding nature.
We were the only group cycling along the Kinta River and it was a weekend! Imagine the peace and tranquility we experienced while cycling.
