Welcome to Hainan Island! Meet and greet with the Guide at Haikou Airport, then leisure transfer to Sanya City.

Meal: Lunch, Dinner

Stay: 4* hotel, Sanya

Day 02                Sanya

This morning, there is a bicycle fitting and testing session. Ensure the bicycle assigned to you is working properly. You may go on a short ride to test the efficiency of the bicycle. Thereafter, a short briefing with the Cycling Lead to anticipate what’s the adventure for the next 5 days.

Continue the day with a sightseeing tour around Sanya, visiting:

Luhuitou Park (鹿回头公园) – perched on a hillside overlooking the South China Sea, the park is one of Sanya’s most iconic landmarks, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the city, Sanya Bay, and Phoenix Island. The park’s name, meaning “Deer Turning Its Head,” comes from a legendary Li ethnic folk tale of a hunter and a deer that transformed into a beautiful maiden – a story that has made this a symbol of romantic love. At the summit stands the impressive 15-metre Luhuitou sculpture, the tallest on Hainan Island, which has become the city’s emblem and the reason Sanya is nicknamed “Deer City” . The park features love-themed attractions, well-maintained walking trails through lush tropical vegetation, and is particularly renowned as one of the finest spots on the island to watch the sunset.

Edge of the Sky and Rim of the Sea (天涯海角石刻) – one of Sanya’s most iconic scenic areas, located at the foot of Maling Mountain. It is renowned for its striking coastal landscape featuring numerous giant granite boulders scattered across a beautiful beach of white coral sand and turquoise waters. The most famous rocks are inscribed with Chinese characters—”Tianya” (天涯) carved in 1733 by a Qing Dynasty official, and “Haijiao” (海角) added later by a late Qing scholar. Historically a place of exile for out-of-favour officials, Tianya Haijiao has transformed into a romantic symbol, associated with a legendary love story of two young lovers who turned into stones, making it a popular destination for couples and wedding photography. Walk along the coastline with scenic viewing platforms, and is also particularly celebrated for its stunning sunset views.

Nanshan Cultural Zone (南山寺文化园区) – is a renowned 5A-rated scenic area that masterfully blends Buddhist culture with tropical coastal beauty. The park’s undisputed centerpiece is the magnificent 108-metre Guanyin statue standing atop the South China Sea – one of the tallest Buddhist statues in the world, featuring three aspects facing different directions to symbolise blessing and protection. Walk along a connecting bridge to view the statue up close and even touch its feet for blessings. There is Nanshan Temple, a Tang Dynasty-style architectural complex considered the southernmost Buddhist temple in China, along with the Thirty-Three Guanyin Hall and numerous themed gardens. Surrounded by sea on three sides with lush tropical vegetation and high forest coverage, the park offers peaceful walking trails, stunning ocean views, and the opportunity to sample renowned Nanshan vegetarian cuisine made from local ingredients—creating an atmosphere of tranquility perfect for both spiritual reflection and relaxation.

Day 03                 Sanya – Lingshui

Today’s ride connects the region’s most stunning attractions like pearls on a string, including Shifu Bay (士福湾) and Qingshui Bay (清水湾). This is more than just a ride; it’s an immersive feast of tropical coastal scenery. The arc-shaped coastline is distinctive, with strange rocks and reefs on one side and gentle sandy beaches on the other, combining two completely different landscapes. The Freedom Tower standing in the sea is a perfect photo backdrop.

The sand on the beach at Qingshui Bay is incredibly fine. It emits a clear “singing” sound when you walk on it, which is why it’s renowned as the Singing Sands. It’s said that only three places in the world have such sand, and Qingshui Bay is one of them.

The coastal cycling route is mainly asphalt and in good condition. Cyclists will also pass through multiple towns and countryside, offering varied scenery.

Day 04                  Lingshui – Shenzhou Peninsula (神州半岛) – Wanning

One of the most rewarding and challenging sections of the Eastern Route. The route packs a punch with its iconic climbs, diverse landscapes, and vibrant stops. Start with a long, steady ascent. The climb to the Good Han Slope (好汉坡) summit involves two main uphill sections. The climb is about 5 kilometres, ascending roughly 200 metres with a steady gradient. Then it is an exhilarating descent into the charming town of Xinglong. This area is famous for its rich overseas Chinese culture and Southeast Asian influence.

Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Stay: 5* hotel, Wanning

Cycling Distance: up to 60 KM    Accumulated Elevation: +300 M approx.

 Day 05                  Wanning – Bo’ao

Ride across the striking Longgun River Bridge, an architectural marvel that is not just a bridge but a piece of art. The cable-stayed bridge is designed in the shape of a surfing sailboat. This unique design pays homage to Wanning’s status as a world-class surfing destination. It’s a fantastic spot for a photo opportunity.

Cycling along the Hainan Coastal Tourist Road (旅游公路) is a fantastic journey that perfectly blends cultural flavours, modern engineering marvels, and laid-back resort charm. The route is characterised by modern coastal bridges, diverse scenery is a pleasant mix of ocean views and rural landscapes, transitioning from agricultural lands to bays, and the cosmopolitan vibe of Bo’ao. As cyclists wind along the coast with beautiful views of tidal flats, estuaries, and lush coastal vegetation. You may see local fishermen dragging nets on the beach and water buffalo grazing in the wetlands.

Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Stay: 4* Hotel, Bo’ao

Cycling Distance: up to 80 KM    Accumulated Elevation: +200 M approx.

Day 06                  Bo’ao – Wenchang

A day of ride with a beautiful blend of coastal cycling, cultural immersion, and culinary pilgrimage.

Shortly after leaving Bo’ao and heading north, pass through the area near Qingge Elementary School (青葛小学). This small landmark is significant as it appears on the official route maps for the Hainan cycling races, marking a key point along the coastal road. This section of the coastal road is well-paved and offers a smooth ride. It keeps cyclists close to the coast, with intermittent views of the sea and the lush greenery of the shoreline.

Continue passing by Longwan (龙湾), this coastline is dotted with shrimp and fish farms, a vital part of the local economy. The road offers wide, open views of the South China Sea on one side and man-made wetlands on the other. Fengjia Bay (冯家湾) is one of the notable bays along this stretch.

Before reaching the Wenchang city centre, enter the legendary Dongjiao Coconut Plantation (东郊椰林) area. This is the “Coconut Corridor” – a dense forest of coconut palms that feels like a green tunnel. Cycling through here is a surreal experience as the light filters through the towering branches of leaves, and the air is heavy with a tropical scent.

Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Stay: 4* Hotel, Wenchang

Cycling Distance: up to 65 KM    Accumulated Elevation: +200 M approx.

Day 07                  Wenchang – Haikou

It’s the finale classic ride of the eastern route that brings the coastal adventure ride to an end. The route follows the traditional “inner route” along S201, a well-established road that predates the new coastal tourist highway. It’s a route of transition, moving from countryside to capital. The S201 is well-maintained with two-lane asphalt road. It’s generally flat with only gentle undulation, making for relaxed ride.

Donglu Town (东路镇) is a typical agricultural town in northern Wenchang. The landscape is characterised by farmland, scattered villages, and stands of rubber and coconut trees. It’s a glimpse into the rural heart of Hainan. Cyclists share the road with local traffic, pass by small roadside stalls selling fruit and snacks, and experience the daily life of northern Hainan. This is the “original” Hainan cycling experience.

As we approach Haikou, the landscape becomes increasingly urban with more traffic. We’ll pack up and transfer to the capital city.

Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Stay: 4* Hotel, Haikou

Cycling Distance: up to 80 KM    Accumulated Elevation: +260 M approx.

Day 08                  Haikou

This morning, embark on a sightseeing tour, visiting:

Hainan Provincial Museum (海南省博物馆): the museum is the island’s premier comprehensive museum and a perfect for understanding Hainan’s rich heritage. The exhibition focus on three main themes: the maritime civilisation of the South China Sea, Hainan’s history, and its diverse local customs. Explore relics from ancient shipwrecks, learn about the island’s Li, Miao, and Hui ethnic minorities, and see exhibits on world-famous local treasures. It is a fantastic introduction to the island’s unique culture and history.

Tomb of Hai Rui (海瑞墓): designated as a Key Cultural Relic Preservation Site in Hainan, this tranquil cemetery honours Hai Rui (1514–1587), a famed Ming Dynasty official from Hainan celebrated for his unwavering integrity and courage to oppose corruption – earning him the nickname “Lord Bao of the South”. Originally built in 1589, the complex features a memorial archway inscribed with “Righteousness in Eastern Guangdong,” a stone path lined with sculpted animals, and the domed tomb itself. More than his final resting place, it stands as a lasting monument to his life of principle and moral strength.

Qilou Old Street (骑楼老街): centered around Zhongshan Road and Deshengsha Road, this is the city’s crown jewel. These Nanyang-style buildings were built by returning overseas Chinese in the early 20th century and are a stunning architectural and historical treasure. See the striking resemblance of these architectures against those you are familiar in Singapore. It’s the perfect place for a post-ride stroll and some photos.

After the city tour, the remaining day is free at leisure. Beyond the old streets, Haikou is a modern provincial capital with plenty of dining, shopping, and entertainment options.
